Sciatica is a condition characterized by pain that radiates from lumbar spine to your buttock and down the back of your leg due to compression or irritation of sciatic nerve.

What causes sciatica?

  1. Piriformis syndrome: The Piriformis muscle in the buttocks can spasm and compress the sciatic nerve
  2. Herniated disc/ slipped disc: Disc protrusion can press on the root of the sciatic nerve, causing pain and symptoms down the leg.
  3. Spinal stenosis: Narrowing of spinal canal can put pressure on the nerve
  4. Degeneration of disc
  5. Trauma or injury

What are the symptoms of sciatica?

  • Pain: Radiating pain that refer down from the lower back, through the buttock, and down the leg.
  • Numbness,tinglingand burning sensation: Sensory changes in the leg or foot
  • Weakness: Weakness in the leg or foot, making it difficult to walk
